Can You Drink Too Much Water?

Can You Drink Too Much Water?

You’ve probably heard everywhere that water is essential to health. Health and medical experts are always going on about how important water is to your body. But we’re here to answer an unusual question. Can you drink too much water?

The answer is yes, you can. But it’s highly unlikely. Being hydrated requires drinking a lot of water. The amount of water needed to stay properly hydrated differs from person to person.

The average amount of water the human body needs to stay properly hydrated is 8 glasses or 2 liters per day. This may vary from person to person

Some people will need more water than others, such as pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, athletes, etc.

The amount of water needed in your body can be determined by your thirst and the color of your urine. If you barely feel thirsty, and your urine is a light yellow color, you’re probably hydrated.

It’s hard enough to maintain 2 liters of water a day, let alone drink more than that.

What happens when you drink too much water?

Drinking too much water can make the sodium in your body diluted and cause hyponatremia. It happens when your body is unable to excrete the extra water drank by you. Hyponatremia is generally the absence of enough sodium in your body but can be life-threatening.

Athletes who are involved in high-intensity workouts are at higher risk of developing hyponatremia. The average population is highly unlikely to drink too much water and get hyponatremia.

It’s crucially necessary to drink enough water to keep your body hydrated and healthy because a sufficient amount of water fights so many diseases in your body. Also, dehydration causes a lot of problems in your normal body metabolism.

It’s also important to make sure that you don’t drink excess water which can be harmful to your body. Stay healthy, stay sufficiently hydrated!
